UNIUYO RESUMES FOR 2017/2018 ACADEMIC YEAR

This is to inform all students and stakeholders of the university of uyo that the early scheduled of the commencement of 2017/2018 academic session which was postponed has been rescheduled to commence from Monday, the 2nd of October for 2017/2018 academic session for returning students and post graduate students, lectures for returning students Will commence from 9th October 2017 Normal registration without penalty runs from 2nd October till 13 October.. While registration with penalty runs from 16th october to 27th October (N2000) Registration for first semester ends 31st October 2017 Students are advise to complete their registration through the university portal within the schedule time, student who failed to do so would be deemed to have forfeited their studentship and withdrawn voluntarily from the university On behalf of seneate i wish our dear students the best in 2017/2018 academic year. A' Ibom state Gov. Shut down 78 Unapproved Schools

Uyo —No fewer than 78 unapproved private schools in Akwa Ibom State, cutting across nursery, primary and secondary schools, have been shut by the state government. Governor Udom Emmanuel of Akwa Ibom State A statement  by the Permanent Secretary in the state’s Ministry of Education, Mrs. Valerie Obot, yesterday in Uyo, said that the closure took effect from September, 4, 2017. It added that unapproved evening schools and JAMB centres located across the three senatorial districts of the state were also affected. The statement said the closure followed directives from  Governor Udom Emmanuel. According to the statement, the Commissioner for Education had directed the proprietors of the private schools to register and regularize their status with the ministry before August, 31, 2017 and failure of the proprietors to respond to the directives accordingly led to the closure of their schools.

NASU, SSANU, NAAT end meeting with govt, to suspend strike

Full activities may soon resume in Nigerian universities across the country as the non-teaching staff currently on strike have accepted the Federal Government’s proposal aimed at addressing their grievances. PREMIUM TIMES learnt however that the striking unions have asked for ‘some time to consult before finally returning to the duty posts.’ Officials of the unions – Senior Staff Association of Nigeria Universities, SSANU, Non Academic Staff Union of Universities, NASU, and National Association of Academic Technologist, NAAT – told PREMIUM TIMES off the record that the strike could be suspended on Thursday or Friday. The National President of the Joint Action Committee of the unions, Samson Ugwoke, spoke after the second open negotiation meeting with representatives of the government. The second conciliatory meeting which started about 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday and ended at 12:20 a.m. on Thursday is part of the steps taken by both teams to resolve issues involved in the ongoing

ASUU CALL OFF IS STRIKE...

BREAKING: ASUU calls off strike... THE Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, last night announced a conditional suspension of the strike it embarked upon five weeks ago. President Muhammadu Buhari and ASUU President, Prof. Biodun Ogunyemi But the union said that the suspension has time line for the Federal Government to implement what was contained in the memorandum of action the two parties entered into. Briefing journalists after a meeting with the Federal Government Negotiation Team, the National President of ASUU, Prof. Abiodun Ogunyemi said in event the government in her characteristic mature failed to implement the aggreement, the union will not hesitate to take appropriate action, adding that all the items on the list have a time line. ASUU and the Federal Government team led by the Minister of Labour and Employment Senator Chris Ngige had lurked in a meeting that started about 4.00pm which was supposed to last for about one hour, but it dragged for about four hours
